Shooting schedule 1 - Joydens Wood

Image
On Saturday 28th October, I filmed in Joydens wood to get the footage needed for the choruses of my music video. I arranged to meet with my actor at 3:30pm and made this table to organise our time and how to use it the most effectively. Overall, I stuck to this schedule very well however it took a bit more time than planned to set up the equipment and find the best place to put up the tripod. We ended up leaving at around the same time I had planned as this extra setting up time was made up with the filming with the smoke grenades which didn't take as long as I had expected.

My Equipment

Image
When filming my music video, I will need to use a variety of different types of equipment including a camera, tripod and lights. The camera that I'll use is a 'Canon eos 1100D'.  I decided to use this camera because it would take high quality videos and photographs that I could use for my filming. Due to it being my own camera, it would be available whenever I needed it and would have full access to it to film whenever and wherever I needed. I have used it many times in the past so I am comfortable with how it works and how to use the different settings in order for me to capture the best visuals as possible. I would use a tripod with my camera to prevent any shaky footage. This will ensure that the camera will be static so therefore be able to obtain suitable and professional looking clips to create a good quality music video. I also own my own tripod so will again be able to use it whenever and wherever I need to, to help speed up the process of creating my ...

My Finished Record Label Logo

Image
After a few subtle changes, this is the finished result of my record label logo. I used Photoshop to slightly rotate the crescent shape to make it look more like a moon but still be read as a 'C'. I thought this angle made it look edgier and more professional. I also darkened the colour of the font to make it stand out and blend in with the crescent shape more. My focus group said they liked the blue font as it links to the galaxy design which is why I kept the same shade, just darkened it to make it look bolder and more eye-catching.

Record Label Logo Feedback

Image
After creating a logo for my record label, I had to choose a font to go with it that would best suit it and would appeal to my target audience. I asked my focus group which they preferred out of six choices and here were there responses. From these responses, I have decided to use font 4 as my focus group thought it fit in the most with the crescent shape and looks bold and eye catching. I personally like this option because it it is condensed but still easy to read so wont take up to much space, keeping it neat and tidy. It also seems to blend in the best with the crescent shape and the font looks unique which would help to create a recognisable image for the record company.

Record Label Logo Creation

Image
When creating the logo for my record label, I wanted to include an element of space in it to increase the interest of it among my target audience and people who may see it.  I took this image from google to use in my logo as the colours compliment each other and fit well with my genre. I believe the colours will appeal to people aged between 15-25 and of any gender. The outer space feature in my logo will appeal to alternative audience as I believe the people who will listen to the genre of music of my video will find an interest in the wonders of outer space including the colours and complexity of it. To avoid copyright issues I made sure that this image was free to use and if it wasn't I would find a new image or ask for permission before using it.  I wanted to make a crescent shape to go in place of the 'C' in 'Cosmic' to make my logo appealing to look at and make it unique. Here is my method of creating this logo. After opening Photoshop, I selected t...

Chosen Software

Image
Premiere Pro The software I'm using to edit my music video is Premiere Pro CS4 as it will allow me to accurately put together my footage to create a high definition music video. There are many effects, filters and transition tools available on this software which will allow me to manipulate it to make it look as close to my vision as possible. As I haven't used a video editing software before, I thought this would be a good choice as it isn't too advanced to be confusing and overwhelming, but it still has all the elements that are used by professionals and people with little experience with editing.  Premiere Pro is more advanced than other editing softwares such as movie maker which means it'll produce a higher quality video and give me a broader range of editing techniques to use to make my video look as good as possible. I am able to access this software at school and at home through the school website meaning it'll be easily accessible and I can use it w...

Story Board

Image
I have created a story board for my video to help me organise what needs to be filmed and when, as well as giving myself a structure to my video when I start editing. I wanted to include as many different angles and shot types when filming to make it look as interesting as possible and attract my target audience. I have made this story board to be as realistic to film as possible to ensure I don't end up trying to film something that is out of my depth and it turn out I do not have the correct equipment, ability or knowledge when trying to capture my vision. When filming, I am going to stick to this as much as possible but am willing to adapt certain aspects of it if I think of a better fitting idea later in time or have to change anything due to unforeseen issues.

Final Ideas

Image
After carrying out some deeper research into the lyrics of the song and information about the band, I have come up with some ideas for my final plan which I feel will better represent the song and narrow down my ideas more than my initial ones. When creating my story board, I'll try to incorporate as many of these aspects as possible and target it to my audience as much as possible while keeping it looking professional and interesting.

Record label name ideas and feedback

Image
I came up with three options for a record label and asked my focus group what they thought of them and which they preferred. My options were 'Dynamite Entertainment', 'Acoustics Records' and 'Genius Entertainment' After looking at my audience feedback, Genius Entertainment was the most popular option as it links to my song name and was said to be the easiest to remember. This has therefore persuaded me to call my record label Genius Entertainment because I'd want my label to be as memorable as possible in order to increase the popularity of the artist and their music.

Actor Permission Form

Image
I put together a permission form for my actors to ensure they fully understand their commitments and responsibilities when taking part in my music video. I gave it to them so they can read and sign it, knowing I’ll be using their identities throughout the process of creating the video and knowing that if they wish to withdraw or feel uncomfortable in any way they must let me know so we can resolve any issue. By signing this they are under the agreement for me to use their name, image and performance in my video to then edit and manipulate after the filming is complete.

Inspirations

Image
As I want to explore a number of different techniques and ideas in my music video, I decided to do some research into some music videos that have inspired my own ideas. These three videos have. Paramore - Now The use of colour in this video has inspired my ideas as it starts of very bleak and dull but as the story progresses, more colour is introduced into the scene. I really like how the coloured smoke stands out against the gloomy scenery and begins to fill the video with colour, ending in a vibrant setting. The use of smoke grenades is similar to how I'd like to have them used in my video as they light up the scene and add dramatic effect. The majority of my video is going to be tinted to resemble the 1930s era so by using this contrast of colour, my video would look very appealing thus preventing it from becoming tedious to watch. Don Broco - You Wanna Know The lighting in this performance video really grasped my attention as the band look to be compl...

Target Audience Mood board

Image
This mood board contains a collection of images that I think represent my target audience of anyone ages mainly between 15-25 of any gender. They tend to have this style of fashion and have similar interests shown in these pictures such as tattoos and piercings, going to festivals and concerts, unique styles such as dying their hair different colours and enjoy music and photography. I will use this mood board to inspire my ideas when creating my music video and aim to have elements of this star image within it.
