Record Label Logo Creation

When creating the logo for my record label, I wanted to include an element of space in it to increase the interest of it among my target audience and people who may see it. I took this image from google to use in my logo as the colours compliment each other and fit well with my genre. I believe the colours will appeal to people aged between 15-25 and of any gender. The outer space feature in my logo will appeal to alternative audience as I believe the people who will listen to the genre of music of my video will find an interest in the wonders of outer space including the colours and complexity of it. To avoid copyright issues I made sure that this image was free to use and if it wasn't I would find a new image or ask for permission before using it.

I wanted to make a crescent shape to go in place of the 'C' in 'Cosmic' to make my logo appealing to look at and make it unique. Here is my method of creating this logo.

After opening Photoshop, I selected the shape tool and clicked on the ellipse tool to draw a circle on the page.

When I had drawn the circle, I opened the galaxy print in a tab next to it and dragged it onto the same page. I resized the image (Ctrl-T) and covered the circle shape completely.

To get the pattern inside the shape I selected 'Layer' at the top of the page and clicked on 'Create Clipping Mask'.

I decided I wanted to adjust the part of the pattern being shown through the circle. To change this, I clicked 'Edit' at the top of the page and went to 'Transform' and 'Scale' to move the image around without moving the circle.

When I had the preferred part of the pattern showing through the circle, I drew another circle over the top but slightly smaller to create a crescent looking shape with the galaxy pattern. I did this by using the same 'Ellipse Tool' as previously.

When applying this transformation, this is now what the shape looks like. I wanted to add a thin black border around the edge of this shape to ensure it stands out against any background it may be put on. to do this I selected the layer and found the 'Stroke' option at the bottom of the page.

When clicking on 'Stroke', this box appears. I changed the stroke to 2 and clicked 'OK'.

Adding this stroke onto the shape only affected the outside of it meaning I had to do the same to the white circle to apply it to the inside. I used the same method to do this as previously.

I needed to get rid of the black line that wasn't around the crescent shape. I did this by selecting the 'Hard Mix' blend mode which left the stroke on the shape but took it away from the other areas.

My cresent shape is now completed so all that is left now is to add the text. I first erased the background using the 'background eraser tool'. I added the text by clicking on the text tool and typing in what I wanted next to the shape. The font can be changed easily to suit my genre and vision for my logo as well as the font size to best fit the overall logo.

I now need to pick a font I would like to use but there are many appropriate options. I will ask my focus group their opinions on which they prefer the best out of numerous options that I'll give them and gain some more opinions and feedback about to then choose the best option possible.
