Target Audience Feedback - Initial Ideas

Image
I asked members of my target audience to listen to my chosen song and tell me what it makes them think of. Here are their responses... From these responses, I have decided to change some of my original thoughts. I liked the idea of giving my video a 1930s swing era theme as it'll really match the style and genre of the song. I've decided I want to make my main character a scientist and have her become increasingly insane as the video progresses and have it in black and white with the choruses being in colour. I'd like to make colour a main aspect of my video and include imagery related to fire to create a clear link to the lyrics. In terms of shot types, I want to use lots of interesting shots and angles to make my video as interesting and gripping as possible.  I will now have to brainstorm my ideas and come up with a final idea to use for my video.

Permission

In order to use my chosen song for my music video it is important that I gain permission from the record label. This is to ensure I don't get accused of copyright and to inform the company how their song will be used. I accessed DCD2's official website and found the contact information from which I sent them this email.

Initial Ideas

Here is a brainstorm of my initial ideas to showing the kind of themes locations, shots and editing techniques I'd like to incorporate into my music video. These ideas may be adapted or changed as I do more research into what my target audience would like to see in a video for this song and when planning my story board. I'll have to ensure my final ideas are doable and I have access to any equipment and supplies necessary to keep it organised and successful.

Smoke grenade test

Image
For my music video, I want to include coloured smoke grenades as I believe it will create an edgy and dramatic effect to it. By doing this, I think it will make my video really stand out to my target audience and become a distinctive element to be recognised by. On the 17th September I went to Joydens wood in Bexley to test out a smoke grenade to see how it would work and how long it would last. I chose this location as I knew it would have areas that are isolated as are away from main roads and houses meaning the smoke would not cause any inconvenience or damage. I did some research and found that it is not harmful to animals so letting it off here was a safe option. I filmed the smoke to see how looks and to see what kind of effect it'll have. Here is the video I took of it: I was really pleased with how the smoke grenade worked and will definitely go through with this idea for my video. When coming up with ideas and creating a story board, I will think of how to best in...

Chosen Song

Image
My chosen song is 'Crazy=Genius' by Panic! At The Disco. This song is the sixth track from the bands fifth studio album 'Death of a Bachelor'. This album was released on the 15th January 2016 through the record label 'Fueled by Ramen' and 'DCD2'. The entire album was written and recorded by the lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Brendon Urie. It debuted at number one on the US 'Billboard 200' with 190,000 album units and was nominated for the Grammy award for 'Best Rock Album' at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. The song itself was written by Brendon Urie, Sam Hollander and Jake Sinclair and produced by Sinclair. Due to the label and song being released under the record label, I will need to ask permission to use the song for copyright reasons. I decided on this track as it sounds upbeat and energetic meaning I can create a chaotic and interesting music video to stand out to my target audience. The band usually have an alternative/roc...
